Ranger's Apprentice: The Tournament at Gorlan
By: John Flanagan
Ranger's Apprentice: The Tournament at Gorlan is a great book. It is a prequel to the Ranger's Apprentice series which I would also recommend. This Fantasy story is about 2 rangers, Crowley and Halt, who have to save a kingdom. A traitor, Morgarath, is trying to take over and has already captured the king and the prince. In this fight to save the kingdom they will need to recruit rangers to help them. As they do this they must also free the prince and king and to have evidence of Morgarath's treachery. The one place to do this is at the Tournament at Gorlan. They must use rangers, princes, kings, and barons to have enough evidence. But is it enough? I enjoyed this book a lot and think that if you read it you will too. I would give this book 4.5 stars out of 5.

Masterminds By: Gordon Korman

Masterminds by Gordon Korman takes place in a "perfect" town called Serenity, New Mexico where honesty and integrity are valued above all. This book is written in a way that each chapter is narrated by one of five main characters in this story. The main characters Eli Frieden, Tori Pritel, Amber Laska, Malik Bruder, and Hector Amani each tell and different part of the story. All the kids have a tree house and a pool, and everyone knows everyone. How couldn't you when your town only has a population of 185? One day, Eli is hanging out with his friend Randy, when Randy comes up with this great idea to bike to a place that his dad showed him. A few miles out of town, there was supposedly a 1961 Alfa Romero, an Italian sports car sitting unused in a dusty shed. Eli first considers asking his dad, because he'd never been out of the town without crime, war, or murder ever before. Then he decides not to ask. He is 13 and can make his own decisions. As they bike closer toward this so called shed, Eli gets this splitting headache, and he feels like he's about to vomit. He's never felt so gross in his life before. But the Surety, or "Purple People Eaters" as kids at school call them are on to them in minutes to rescue Eli. By the time Eli is out of the hospital, Randy is leaving to take care of his old grandparents that live in Colorado. Randy's last words to Eli are "I'll write to you." He never does. One day a few weeks later when he is feeling really upset, Tori comes to his house to talk to him. They find a letter that Randy left saying that he was sent to boarding school, some kids like Eli are special, and that's why he got sick, and that "something screwy" was going on in Serenity. Eli and his friends find clues that lead to a crazy discovery. They are linked to some of the worst criminal masterminds ever, and that they can't trust anyone, least of all their parents. I liked this book so much that I could not stop reading it. It kept me on the edge of my seat. This is now one of my top 5 favorite books. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Gordon Korman did a great job writing this book.

Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan

We follow the journeys of demigods from Camp Half-Blood in this sequel to the Percy Jackson books. The first book, The Lost Hero  introduces us to a new brainwashed kid named Jason. He was plopped into a life, not knowing who he is or where he came from, holding hands with a girl he'd later find out is named Piper and a guy named Leo making jokes. He must figure out who he is, and why he can't remember. These books are from many different people's point of views. They are funny, action-packed, books about the struggle of being a demigod. The books in order are The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades, and The Blood of Olympus.

Vespers Rising 39 Clues

This book has 4 stories in it, one from the 1507, one from 1526, one from WWII, and one from present time. In the first one, a man named Gideon concocts a serum that makes a human super strong, super fast, and super smart, but there are serious side effects, including death. A man hungry for power kills Gideon to get the serum, but fails to obtain it. In the second story, the daughter of Gideon, is to protect a gear that could end the world if it falls into the wrong hands. The same Greedy man, Lord Vesper, tries to get the gear also, but fails again. In the third story, the same gear is given to a girl to steal from George S. Patton, who is a villain that stole the gear from the girls family, and the girl succeeds. In the last story, 2 kids are to find the gear and keep it from 2 ruthless villains that will stop at nothing to get it.
I rate this book 5 stars because it had a lot of action in it.

Escape from the slave-traders

This book takes place in Africa and is about 2 boys that are captured by slave-traders, along with lots of others that are from a different tribe. The slave-traders bring the to David Livingstone, but instead of enslaving them, he saves them and heals their wounds. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. This book was okay because this book didn't tell much about what happened after they were saved.

Mission Titanic 39 Clues

This book is about 6 kids, Amy, Dan, Ian, Hamilton, Jonah, and Cara. They have to prevent disasters from happening that are caused by a mysterious villain called the Outcast. The first disaster is going to happen to the Titanic II, a replica of the first Titanic. The 6 of them head to Argentina where the ship is setting off. On the ship, the Outcast's henchmen are also on board, including an ex-KGB spy. The ship's fuel tanks are rigged to explode, so the kids have to neutralize the fuel, or else there world goes BOOM!!!
I rate this book 5 stars because there was a lot of suspense in this book, as well as a lot of action.

Mission Hurricane, 39 Clues

This book was written by Jenny Goebel. This book is about 6 kids, Amy, Dan, Jonah, Ian, Hamilton, and Cara who have to stop a disaster from killing all of Amsterdam's citizens. This disaster is not an accident, it is caused by Amy  and Dan's grandfather, who they thought was dead. The disaster is a flood that could destroy the entire population of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The flood is caused by a nuclear explosion that happens underwater and shoots a column of water straight up and causes a ring of tidal waves as it comes down. They have to close the flood gates in time or else the disaster will take place. But the disaster  is just a distraction from the Grandfather's ultimate plan, which you have to find out.
I loved this book because there was a lot of suspense and action, which I love. I rate this book 5 stars, because there was only one thing that I thought was bad about it, and that there wasn't actually a hurricane, it was a flood. This is the third of four books in this series.
